It can be stressful and frustrating if you are accidentally locked out of your GoDaddy account, especially if you forgot your password. Good thing GoDaddy provides a way to reset or recover the webmail password.
GoDaddy is a leading domain name registration and management provider. They also offer a wide range of services, including website hosting, cloud storage, affiliate services, web design, and email services.
Most users have one primary password for their entire GoDaddy account, plus several different passwords for other services, like the webmail service. If you work within a team, an administrator may have the primary account password while providing team members with separate webmail passwords.
If you can’t suddenly access your GoDaddy because of a forgotten password, don’t fret. You can ask the system admin to reset your password or check out the steps below to regain access.
Technically, GoDaddy doesn’t allow you to recover a lost password. If you suddenly forget your GoDaddy account password or the associated webmail password, you can use security hints to try to remember it. But if you get locked out due to multiple trial attempts, what you can do is reset the password.
To reset your GoDaddy password, follow these steps.
1. Go to the GoDaddy login page and click “Retrieve My Password”
You will be redirected to the Account Assistance page. If you know your GoDaddy account password, you can access the page and proceed to change the webmail password.
2. Click “See My Password Hint”
Before resetting your password, GoDaddy will give you a chance to remember it. Enter your username or customer number with the street address associated with the account. Complete the captcha code and click "Submit." GoDaddy will show the password hint you selected during signup. You're good to go if you can remember your password with the hint. Otherwise, you should proceed to reset it.
3. Select “Reset My Password”
At this point, you’ve completely forgotten about the password and have opted to change it simply. Enter your username or customer number and the email address you used to sign up for the account. Complete the captcha and click “Submit.” GoDaddy will send an authorization code together with instructions to your email address.
Follow the instructions to create a new password. There’s a time limit of two hours to complete the instructions. Otherwise, the code provided will expire, and you will need to repeat the entire process. Make sure you have enough time to follow through with the instructions before attempting to reset your password.
If you know the GoDaddy account password but forgot the webmail password, here’s how you can reset it.
1. Log in to your GoDaddy account and navigate to the My Products page
After accessing your GoDaddy account, look for the webmail login under the My Products page. This page displays all the GoDaddy-related services you’ve purchased with your account.
2. Go to the “Email” tab
Navigate to the “Email” tab to see the list of accounts. Look for the account with the forgotten webmail password and click “Launch” to open the Email Control Center.
3. Click the “+” button beside the account whose webmail password needs to be reset
You will then see a list of email addresses for that account.
4. Select the locked email address
This action will open the Edit Mailbox screen.
5. Enter the new password
Look for the “Change Password” box and enter the new password. Confirm the entry by typing the same password in the “Confirm Password” box. Make sure it’s something easy to remember but also strong. Avoid weak passwords that can be easily compromised.
6. Accept changes by clicking “OK”
At this point, you’ve changed the password. A success confirmation popup will show you that the changes are done. Remember the password either by using a password manager or writing it down.
Passwords are essential layers of security that we use to protect our accounts from cybercriminals. Nobody wants the nightmare of getting locked out of their account only to discover criminals have hacked it. Always observe basic password hygiene and security procedures to keep your accounts secure.
If you’ve locked yourself accidentally, immediately recover the password. Don’t leave your account hanging, or you run the risk of losing access to all of your hard work. If you need further support or suspect your account has been hacked, you can always reach out to GoDaddy’s customer service hotline.
