How To Copy And Paste Existing Formatting In Squarespace

Duplicating an existing webpage or copying a page’s format and layout saves time and mental energy. It’s a quick way to produce similar-looking content without starting from scratch. Squarespace provides a quick way to copy and paste existing formatting by allowing users to duplicate layout pages, cover pages, blog posts, events, products, video pages, and more.

Here’s how you can quickly duplicate text and templates in Squarespace.

Duplicating Layout Pages

To duplicate a layout page, do the following:

  1. Click Pages from the Home menu.
  2. Hover your mouse over the layout page you want to duplicate and select the gear icon.
  3. Scroll down and click Duplicate Page in the page settings.
  4. In the pop-up message that appears, click Confirm.
  5. A duplicate page is now open, and you can start editing it. You’ll notice that the new page title ends with "(Copy)," as well as any new gallery blocks image title.

Some notes to remember:

  • The duplicate page will be displayed in the panels of the page — not linked section
  • You can add the duplicated page to your navigation, edit its content, and modify its settings just like any other page

Duplicating A Page Section

Within a page, you can duplicate block and gallery sections. A collection page section cannot be duplicated.

To duplicate a page section, do the following:

  1. Click Pages in the Home menu, then select the page containing the section you want to duplicate.
  2. Hover over the section, then click Edit on the page.
  3. Select the duplicate icon. The duplicated section will be displayed below.

All of the content in the section will be copied exactly as it is, but the newsletter and form blocks will need to be manually set up with a storage option.

Duplicating A Blog Post

To copy a blog post, do the following:

  1. Click Pages in the Home menu, then click a blog post.
  2. Move your cursor over the post in the blog page panel and click..., then select Duplicate.
  3. This takes you to a copy of the blog post that you can change.
  4. Click Pages in the Home menu, then click a blog page.
  5. Move your mouse cursor over the blog post you want to copy and click Edit.
  6. Click "Copy" at the bottom of the post editor.
  7. This takes you to a copy of the blog post that you can change.
  8. You can move the duplicate blog post to a new blog page if you want to.

Duplicating A Cover Page

To duplicate a cover page, follow these steps:

  1. Click Pages in the Home menu.
  2. Move your mouse cursor over the cover page you want to copy and click the gear icon.
  3. Scroll down in the page settings and click Duplicate Page.
  4. In the message that will pop up, click Confirm.
  5. The duplicate page will show up with the same title in the "Not linked" section of the pages panel.
  6. You can move the duplicated page to your navigation, modify its content, and change its settings just like you would with any other cover page.

Other Squarespace Sections You Can Duplicate

Aside from the sections above, there are other things you can duplicate in Squarespace. These are:

  • Pages and content for index pages
