Website Design Tips

First impressions are everything. When someone visits your website, you have limited time to make a good impression and persuade them to stay. A well-designed website that’s visually appealing and functional is critical in getting good website conversions.

The longer you get your customers to stay, the more you’ll be able to convince them to take action (shop, download, etc.) and convert them into paying customers. Below are some tried and tested web design tips to increase conversion rates.

Design Tips For Websites To Increase Conversions

1. Prioritize User Experience (UX)

Website design is a top criterion for 46% of people to determine a company’s credibility. Prioritizing UX design helps customers have a positive experience on your website, leading to increased trust and conversions.

2. Limit Your Customers’ Options

Limiting the options your customers can choose, for example, in the navigation bar, is one of the web design principles that states that the fewer choices the customers have, the more likely they will make a choice. When you present customers with many options, it will take them a long time to decide what to do, and they might eventually abandon your site.

Remember that the fewer choices your customer has, the more they will make a decision quickly, thus boosting your conversions.

3. Be Mobile Responsive

As per Statista, more than 90% of the global population accesses the Internet on their phones. If your site is not optimized for mobile, you are losing customers to your competitors. Being mobile responsive is no longer an option; it’s a necessity.

To increase mobile conversion rates, have a responsive web layout, clear call-to-action buttons, and easy-to-click and view links.

4. Follow The Rule Of Thirds

The rule of thirds is a design principle stating that the most important elements must be placed in the four inner intersections of a 3 x 3 equally spaced quadrant. Users focus their eyes on these critical spots, and your call-to-action or other essential elements must be present here to increase conversions.

5. Use White Space

One of the web design tips is don’t be afraid of blank spaces on your website. Using ample white or negative space to separate texts, graphics, and other website elements makes your site look less cluttered. As a result, visitors can locate the information they need quickly, helping boost conversions.

6. Increase Your Page Speed

With so many distractions and things to do online, users are incredibly impatient regarding loading times. The longer your site loads, the more customers you lose. Even a 1-second delay can result in 7% fewer conversions.

Always check your page speed and troubleshoot any issues. Google Page Insights is a great tool to measure page speed and help you understand which portions of your web design are slowing down your site.

7. Apply The F Pattern

When users look at a website, they start at the top left corner and move towards the top right corner. Their eyes move to the middle and across, forming an F pattern. Understanding the F pattern will allow you to position your design elements so the customer will see them. Make sure the top quadrant makes a strong impression.

8. Use The Right Colors

Colors are often underrated, but they play an essential role in web design. Colors convey the brand essence, evoke emotions, and create the mood of a website. Always choose color combinations that evoke the feelings you want users to feel.

Observe contrast to make headlines, links, call-to-actions, and other essential elements stand out.

9. Create Intuitive Navigation Bars

Navigating your website must be easy and intuitive to get customers to take action. Streamlined navigation will help customers find their needs and get where you want to take them. Make sure the navigation is not cluttered, easy to understand, and mobile-responsive.

10. Group Similar Elements Together

If you want customers to take action immediately, group the elements you want to be associated with each other. For example, place a testimonial box below a form conversion button, and visitors will associate the two. This principle of design follows the Gestalt Similarity Principle, which states that our brains make sense of things by grouping them.

11. Use High-Quality Images

People are visual creatures, so high-quality images are essential to keep people engaged on your website. Ensure all of your site's images are clear and relevant to your brand. If you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford a professional photographer, consider the various places online where you can get free, high-quality images.

12. Use Clear And Concise Text, Especially In CTAs

Don't try to cram too much information onto each page of your website. Be clear and concise in your writing, and use headlines to break up the text, so it's easy to scan.

Include a call to action on every page on your website, whether it's "subscribe now," "learn more," or "contact us.”

Increase Conversions By Following Web Design Principles

Website conversions quickly increase by following basic design principles that help engage the user and compel them to take action. If your website suffers from low conversion rates, run a quick audit to determine what needs to be fixed.
