How to Accept Payments on Wix for Free

If you are running an online store, accepting payments is one of the crucial components. While there are different payment gateways in the market, those who already use Wix as their website builder and CMS solution will be thrilled to consider Wix Payments as their payment gateway.

What Are Wix Payments?

Wix Payments is a service that enables Wix users to accept payments online. It is integrated with the Wix platform, so users can easily add it to their website or online store. You can manage your finances, like payouts, refunds, and chargebacks, right from the dashboard.

It accepts all major credit and debit cards and provides a secure way to accept online payments. Payouts can be daily, weekly, or monthly. The service is free and easy to set up and comes with 24-hour dedicated support.

The service offers competitive rates and a range of features, such as the ability to offer flexible payments for memberships and subscriptions. Wix Payments is a convenient and cost-effective way for businesses to take payments online.

Pros And Cons Of Wix Payments

Wix Payments is an ideal solution for the following reasons:

  • You can manage everything from a central dashboard
  • Customers have a better user experience because they are not redirected to a third-party payment gateway
  • Wix doesn’t charge extra for refunds, unlike other online store providers
  • You can still use different payment processors, like PayPal with Wix Payments

However, the following are reasons why Wix Payments may not work for you:

  • Wix Payments is limited to Europe, Brazil, and the US
  • Not all business categories can use Wix Payments. Check this list of prohibited businesses
  • You only have 30 days to complete the setup once you start receiving payments. Otherwise, they will be refunded to your customers
  • Support is limited, and there’s not a lot of documentation about how to use the service
  • It’s a new solution, and most customers will still trust major players like PayPal and Stripe

Wix Payments Transaction Costs

You must be on Wix’s Business or eCommerce plan to use Wix Payments. It’s not available for other Wix plans. It’s free to set up, though, and they don’t charge additional fees for refunds and chargebacks.

Wix doesn’t charge transaction fees for Wix Payments or other payment processors. This is a significant factor since other online store builders, like Shopify, charge transaction fees unless you use Shopify Payments, their in-house payment gateway.

However, Wix Payments charges processing fees for credit and debit card payments. The fees are 2.9% of the transaction amount plus $0.30. This is the same for everyone, regardless of the card being processed. It’s a competitive rate that matches PayPal and Stripe’s charges.

How To Accept Payments On Wix

After you’ve considered the pros and cons of Wix Payments and the transaction costs involved, it’s time to set it up in your store. Again, you have to be on the Business or eCommerce plan to have Wix Payments activated.

  1. Go to Wix Dashboards and click “Accept Payments.”
  2. Click “Add Payment Methods” and select the ones you want for your site.
    • We recommend combining Wix Payments with other payment methods to give your customers more options. This helps remove the friction when checking out. You can use Wix Payments alongside PayPal, Alipay, POS, and manual payments. It can’t be used together with Stripe, though.
  3. Finish the setup by clicking “Complete Setup.”
  4. When you arrive at the Wix Payments dashboard, follow the steps to launch Wix Payments.
  5. Enter your personal information, business type, and bank account details. This is important so Wix can send your payments.
  6. Wait for Wix to approve your application. They review each account before activating Wix Payments.
  7. Once your application is approved, you can now start receiving payments. Make sure to select the payout schedule.

Wix Payments are ideal for online sellers who want the convenience of managing everything from one dashboard. If your customers already trust your brand, you can convince them to use Wix Payments and do away with other payment processors on your site. Otherwise, use Wix Payments with different payment gateways to avoid missing sales opportunities.

Wix Payments is an excellent add-on to any eCommerce store since it’s free to set up, has competitive processing charges, and gives your customers another choice at checkout. It’s a great tool to increase your sales while managing your costs.
