How Can I Start Building an Offline Website?

Do you want to create your own website, but you don't want it live for the internet to see? You can opt to build an offline website. Building an offline website is generally the same as creating an online one; the only difference is that your site will only be accessible through your computer or your local network.

Are you ready to start building your offline website? Here are the steps to begin.

  1. Create a folder on your computer for all the content of your website. Having one place where you can find all files will ensure that the content will stay safe before you’re ready to upload them to a server.
  2. For better organization, create a folder tree to have web pages categorized for quick and easy access. For instance, have icons in one folder and all images in another to avoid getting lost.
  3. Next, open Microsoft Notepad. You can easily find it by clicking on the Start Menu, going to Programs, Accessories, and clicking on Notepad.
  4. Then, feel free to code away how you would if you were using a standard editor.
  5. Save your file by clicking Save As. Name the file with something that will help you remember it, like homepage.html, contact.html, or shop.html. Make sure that you save the file with the extension HTML to access it as a web page.
  6. Continue designing web pages until you are ready to upload all of your files to a server.
  7. Now, your website is ready for viewing. Make sure you use a server that’s easy for you to use, as every server has its interface. You can use web server apps to help you test your pages and correct possible errors in the code.

Offline websites can help you test out your code and improve your website design skills. If you have prepared your web pages offline, you can test them out after you start a local server for website building.
