A Stylish PageKit for Maximum Impact

Widescreen is a stylish, minimalist template that uses bold, wide-format car photography and uppercase fonts to add impact to the design. Great for any site that wants to make a definite statement and catch the eye.

The template's fixed-width layout aligns the main 980-pixel-wide page body centrally in the browser window. This ensures that the design looks consistent across all screen sizes. (Best suited to browsers with a screen size of 1024x768 or greater - the vast majority of current browsers.)

Easy to Edit

All the text on the page is simply HTML text, so you don't need a graphics editor to change the headings or menu for example. Just open the page up in your favourite Web page editor (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etc.), select the old text and replace it with your own.

You can easily amend the "WIDESCREEN" text with your own site name, or replace it with a logo.

The template's HTML code was built by hand to ensure maximum compatibility across Web browsers and editors, and is well laid-out and fully commented for ease of maintenance.

Widescreen comes with two page templates: a home page template, and an inner page template. Use the home page template to build your site's home page; use the inner page template to build the other pages of your site.

Fully Web Standards Compliant

Widescreen uses CSS positioning for layout and conforms to the XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS level 2 W3C standards. This ensures a high level of compatibility with today's and tomorrow's browsers.

Flexible Layout

The homepage template features a bold photo with room for a site summary or promo text, and two content columns that you can use for intro text, news, and so on.

The inner page template contains a main content column on the left and a sidebar with an image background on the right.

It's easy to swap out the PageKit's images with your own if required, and the main text columns will stretch vertically, ensuring that the template can accommodate all your content.

Fast Load Time

The estimated load time of the home page on a 56K modem is 9 seconds. The page is built using CSS positioning rather than a tables-based layout, which results in a much faster and smoother load of the page, and better compatibility with modern browsers. It also improves accessibility, enhancing the browsing experience for text-only browsers and screen readers.

This template has been tested and is guaranteed to work with the following Web browsers. Other browsers will probably work fine too - they just haven't been tested with this template.

Fonts Used

Widescreen uses Arial for all text in the page. This font usually comes as standard on PC and Mac systems.
