Cute Design, Great for School and Education Use

With its cute chalkboard imagery and bright yet refined colour scheme, DotEdu is great for sites about schooling, kids, or education in general. The template has a simple, two-column layout and is very easy to work with. You can easily replace the template's images with your own if desired.

The template's fixed-width layout aligns the main 780-pixel-wide page body centrally in the browser window. This ensures that the design looks consistent across all screen sizes.

Easy to Edit

All the text on the page - apart from the "dot.edu" placeholder logo - is simply HTML text, so you don't need a graphics editor to change the headings or menu for example. Just open the page up in your favourite Web page editor (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etc.), select the old text and replace it with your own.

You can easily slot in your own logo or other heading image into the top left corner, replacing the placeholder logo.

The template's HTML code was built by hand to ensure maximum compatibility across Web browsers and editors, and is well laid-out and fully commented for ease of maintenance.

DotEdu comes with two page templates: a home page template, and an inner page template. Use the home page template to build your site's home page; use the inner page template to build the other pages of your site.

Fully Web Standards Compliant

DotEdu uses CSS positioning for layout and conforms to the XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS level 2 W3C standards. This ensures a high level of compatibility with today's and tomorrow's browsers.

Simple, Adaptable Layout

The template features a simple 2-column layout, with the main content on the left and a sidebar on the right.

On the homepage template we've given you a "welcome" text area overlaid on the header image that you can customize to introduce your site. With both the homepage and inner page templates, you can replace all of the sample content with your own text, images, Flash movies or any content you like.

All content areas can stretch vertically, ensuring that the DotEdu template can accommodate as much content as you need.

Suggested Applications

DotEdu's education theme means it's particularly suited to any site about schooling, education, or children. Thanks to its two-column layout, it also works well as a theme for Blogger, WordPress and other blogging applications. Of course, as with all our PageKits, it's easy to adapt DotEdu to your specific needs!

Fast Load Time

The estimated load time of the home page on a 56K modem is 7 seconds. The page is built using CSS positioning rather than a tables-based layout, which results in a much faster and smoother load of the page, and better compatibility with modern browsers. It also improves accessibility, enhancing the browsing experience for text-only browsers and screen readers.

This template has been tested and is guaranteed to work with the following Web browsers. Other browsers will probably work fine too - they just haven't been tested with this template.

Fonts Used

DotEdu uses Arial and Trebuchet MS for all text in the page. These fonts usually come as standard on PC and Mac systems.
