Elegant, minimalist and uber-cool!

This PageKit is broad and bold, with a modern, minimalist layout. The monochrome colour scheme shows off the photo images nicely, and the overall design is guaranteed to make your content shine. This template exudes professionalism from every pixel!

Broadsheet's fixed-width layout aligns the main 770-pixel-wide page body centrally in the browser window. This ensures that the design looks consistent across all screen sizes.

Easy to Edit

All the text on the page is simply HTML text, so you don't need a graphics editor to change the headings or menu for example. Just open the page up in your favourite Web page editor (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etc.), select the old text and replace it with your own.

You can easily slot in your own logo or other heading image into the top left corner, replacing the "Name here" HTML text.

The template's HTML code was built by hand to ensure maximum compatibility across Web browsers and editors, and is well laid-out and fully commented for ease of maintenance.

Fully Web Standards Compliant

Broadsheet uses CSS positioning for layout and conforms to the XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS level 2 W3C standards. This ensures a high level of compatibility with today's and tomorrow's browsers.

Simple 3-Column Layout

Broadsheet's basic 3-column layout consists of a main content column in the centre, with the logo and strapline on the left and the navigation menu on the right. Both left and right columns have ample space for optional sidebar text.

The home page template features a series of elegant news items, with text, image and separator bar. These are optional; you can have as many news items as you like, or simply remove them and use your own content instead.

The inner page template features a more free-form content area. Styles for headings, images and horizontal rules are included to help create a consistent look for your site.

All content areas can stretch vertically, ensuring that the Broadsheet template can accommodate all your content.

Suggested Applications

Because of its "news summary" homepage and unassuming design, Broadsheet is great for sites with lots of news, or content-rich sites in general. It also works very well as a template for a blog, with each news item on the homepage being a blog post. Of course, as with all our PageKits, it's easy to adapt Broadsheet to your specific needs!

Fast Load Time

The estimated load time of the home page on a 56K modem is 6 seconds. The page is built using CSS positioning rather than a tables-based layout, which results in a much faster and smoother load of the page, and better compatibility with modern browsers. It also improves accessibility, enhancing the browsing experience for text-only browsers and screen readers.

This template has been tested and is guaranteed to work with the following Web browsers. Other browsers will probably work fine too - they just haven't been tested with this template.

Fonts Used

Broadsheet uses Arial for all text in the page. This font usually comes as standard on PC and Mac systems.
